Modern Kofun-Style Burial Mound Completed in Kagawa — Dedication Rite Held in Shinto Tradition
古墳の形を模した新しい埋葬施設が、香川県高松市に完成した。設計・建設を手がけたのは、株式会社前方後円墳（代表：竹田恒泰、東京都港区）。同社にとっては、2024年の千葉県野田市に続く2基目となる。
A new burial facility modeled after an ancient kofun tumulus has been completed in Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture. The project was designed and constructed by Kofun Co., Ltd., a Tokyo-based company led by cultural commentator Tsuneyasu Takeda. This marks the company’s second kofun-style project, following one completed in Noda, Chiba, in 2024.
施設は「前方後円墳墓」と名付けられ、神道形式の霊園内に整備された。大理石の鳥居や祭壇を備えた構造で、内部には「三種の神器」を模した品々を埋納。5月9日には出雲大社高松分詞の神職を招き、神道の儀式による竣工祭が行われた。
The new site, named “Kofunbo,” is located within a Shinto-style cemetery. Its design includes a marble torii gate and altar, with symbolic replicas of the Three Sacred Treasures enshrined inside. On May 9, a traditional Shinto dedication ceremony was conducted by clergy from the Takamatsu branch of Izumo Taisha.
特徴のひとつが、年2回の御霊祭（みたまさい）を神主が永代にわたって執り行う点にある。祭儀では埋葬された個人の名が読み上げられ、神前での祈りが続けられる仕組みとなっている。
One key feature of the site is its commitment to holding memorial rites (mitamasai) twice annually in perpetuity. During each ceremony, the names of the deceased are recited and formal prayers offered at the altar.
檀家制度や宗教の指定はなく、承継者も不要。合祀墓やペットと共に入る区画も用意され、都市部の霊園と異なる空間設計が施された。
There are no restrictions on religious affiliation or requirements for family successors. The site includes communal graves and sections where individuals may be buried alongside pets, offering a design distinct from conventional urban cemeteries.
現在までに完成した古墳墓は、千葉県野田市と香川県高松市の2か所。加えて、全国で約15基の新規建設が計画されている。2024年8月に始まった事前販売では、100件を超える成約があり、専用サイトへの登録者は5,000人を上回るという。
To date, two kofun-style burial mounds have been completed—one in Noda, Chiba, and another in Takamatsu, Kagawa. Approximately 15 additional sites are currently in planning across Japan. Since pre-sales began in August 2024, over 100 advance purchases have been recorded, and more than 5,000 individuals have registered via the company’s website.
