Kumano Nachi-taisha Shrine and Aogishidoji Temple named to TIME Magazine’s “World’s Greatest Places 2025”
和歌山県那智勝浦町の熊野那智大社と青岸渡寺が、米国のニュース誌『TIME（タイム）』が発表した「世界で最も素晴らしい場所2025（World’s Greatest Places 2025）」に選ばれた。両社は、熊野三山の一角を成す霊地であり、日本の神仏習合を象徴する聖地として知られている。
Kumano Nachi-taisha Shrine and Seiganto-ji Temple in Nachi-Katsuura Town, Wakayama Prefecture, have been named to TIME Magazine’s “World’s Greatest Places 2025,” an annual list of the world’s most wonderful places. Places 2025″ by the U.S. news magazine TIME. Both shrines are part of the Kumano Sanzan, a sacred site that symbolizes the union of Shintoism and Buddhism in Japan.
『TIME』誌は、世界約200カ国で1億人の読者を持つとされる国際的な報道媒体で、2018年以降、編集部や特派員、専門家の推薦をもとに「今訪れるべき新たな目的地」を毎年選出している。選定対象は観光地に限らず、美術館、ホテル、レストラン、地域一帯など幅広い。
Since 2018, TIME magazine, an international news media with an estimated 100 million readers in some 200 countries, has annually selected “new destinations to visit now” based on recommendations from its editorial staff, correspondents, and experts. The selections are not limited to tourist destinations, but range from museums, hotels, restaurants, and entire regions.
今回の選定では、熊野那智大社の別宮・飛瀧神社にある那智の滝について「原生林に囲まれ神秘的な雰囲気」と評価されたほか、青岸渡寺の三重塔が「絵のように美しい」と紹介された。
In this year’s selection, the Nachi Waterfalls at Hiro Shrine, a branch of Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine, were evaluated as having a “mysterious atmosphere surrounded by virgin forest,” and the three-story pagoda at Seiganto-ji Temple was described as “picturesque.
熊野那智大社と青岸渡寺は、世界遺産「紀伊山地の霊場と参詣道」の一部であり、古来より熊野詣の目的地として信仰を集めてきた。今回の選定により、那智山の自然景観と精神文化が、国際的にも高く評価された形となった。
Kumano Nachi-taisha Shrine and Seigantoji Temple are part of the World Heritage Site “Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range,” and have been worshipped as destinations for Kumano pilgrims since ancient times. The selection of the sites for this year’s World Heritage Site is an international recognition of the natural landscape and spiritual culture of Mount Nachi.
