A Night of Shadows and Light: Ikkyuji Temple Hosts a Special “In Praise of Shadows” Light-Up Event
京都府京田辺市の酬恩庵一休寺では、2025年5月6日、一夜限りの特別ライトアップイベント「陰翳と瞑想の世界 翠のライトアップ」が実施される。作家・谷崎潤一郎の随筆『陰翳礼讃』に着想を得て、照明デザイナーの原田武敏氏が手がける演出によって、境内が静謐かつ幻想的な光と影の世界へと姿を変える。
On May 6, 2025, Shūon’an Ikkyuji Temple in Kyotanabe City, Kyoto Prefecture, will host a one-night-only light-up event titled “A World of Shadows and Meditation – The Green Light-Up.” Inspired by Junichiro Tanizaki’s celebrated essay In Praise of Shadows, the event aims to create a mystical atmosphere through lighting designed by renowned illumination artist Harada Taketoshi.
この企画は、クラウドファンディング「READYFOR」を通じて資金調達が行われ、多くの支援を受けて実現が決定した。5月2日から5日までは支援者限定で公開され、最終日の6日には一般来場者にも門戸が開かれる。
Funded through the crowdfunding platform READYFOR, the project reached its goal thanks to widespread support. From May 2 to 5, the temple grounds will be open exclusively to contributors, with general admission available only on May 6.
会場となる一休寺は、室町時代の禅僧・一休宗純にゆかりを持つ臨済宗の古刹。イベントでは、17時30分から20時30分までの時間帯に特別拝観を行い、日没後の境内に灯された柔らかな光が、静けさと美を兼ね備えた幽玄の空間を創り出す。普段は昼間に拝観する場所が、夜の闇と照明の調和によってまったく異なる表情を見せるという。
Ikkyuji Temple, associated with the Zen monk Ikkyu Sojun, will transform after dusk into a luminous world where tranquility meets artistry. From 5:30 to 8:30 PM, visitors will witness a serene interplay of light and shadow that reimagines the temple’s historic spaces under nightfall.
また、京田辺市で活動するアート集団「フィールアンビエント – KYOTANABE -」とのコラボレーションも実施。五感で感じる芸術をテーマに、まちと人との新たなつながりを模索する同団体は、2024年の活動以来注目を集めており、今回の共演で地域文化との融合を図る。
The event also features a collaboration with “Feel Ambient – KYOTANABE,” a local art collective known for immersive, sensory-based exhibitions. Their participation underscores a broader effort to fuse community engagement with the preservation of cultural heritage.
今回のイベントは、単なる観光資源にとどまらず、地域住民と寺院が共創する文化事業としても意義が大きい。企画には、地元企業の協賛も得られ、寺院の新たな役割と地域文化の継承についての注目が高まっている。
