Isumu Reissues Unkei’s Dainichi Nyorai Figure in Time with Nara National Museum’s “Super National Treasures” Exhibition
奈良国立博物館で開催中の特別展「超 国宝―祈りのかがやき―」に合わせ、仏像フィギュアブランド「イスム」を展開する株式会社MORITA（埼玉県東松山市）は、運慶の初期代表作として知られる《大日如来坐像》（国宝・奈良円成寺蔵）を精巧に再現したフィギュア「イスム 大日如来」を2025年5月27日より復刻発売する。
Coinciding with the “Super National Treasures – The Radiance of Prayer” exhibition now open at the Nara National Museum, Buddha statue brand Isumu (operated by Morita Co., Ltd.) has announced the re-release of its highly detailed figure of Unkei’s early masterpiece, the seated statue of Dainichi Nyorai (National Treasure, Enjo-ji Temple, Nara).
このフィギュアは、2017年に初めて商品化され、2019年に販売を終了したものの、仏像ファンからの熱い要望が続いていた。奈良博の国宝展に実物が出陳されることを契機に、定番ラインナップとして再登場する。
First launched in 2017 and retired in 2019, the figure makes its return due to persistent demand from collectors and renewed interest following the sculpture’s inclusion in the major Nara exhibition. Scheduled for release on May 27, 2025, the figure now joins Isumu’s standard lineup.
総高約30cmの本製品は、写実と精神性を兼ね備えた運慶仏の造形美を、現代の素材と技術で再現したもの。監修には、運慶研究の第一人者であり、東京国立博物館や鎌倉国宝館でのキャリアを持つ山本勉氏を迎えた。また、円成寺多宝塔に安置された模刻像を手がけた藤曲隆哉氏（彫刻家・修復家）が原型を制作。仏像彩色の伝統技法を継承する篁千礼氏が彩色監修を担った。
Measuring approximately 30 cm in height and weighing 2.9 kg, the figure is cast in high-grade polystone with a brass crown. It was developed under the supervision of three leading experts: Dr. Tsutomu Yamamoto, a foremost Unkei scholar; Takaya Fujimagari, sculptor and restorer of the official replica for Enjo-ji’s pagoda; and Chihiro Takamura, master of traditional Buddhist statue coloring.
運慶がこの像に11カ月を費やして彫り上げたという記録は、若き日の仏師がいかに力を注いだかを物語る。本製品もその息吹を現代に伝えるべく、耳の深さや髪筋の方向、鼻梁の緩やかな立ち上がり、印相の位置、足裏の造形に至るまで、実物に忠実な表現が貫かれている。
Every detail—from the ears and nose to the intricate hairlines and lotus posture—faithfully captures the grace and power of the original sculpture, which Unkei himself spent eleven months completing. The space created between the chest and mudra (hand gesture) enhances the statue’s dignified presence, and the carefully carved soles are considered among the most beautiful in Buddhist sculpture.
価格は税込143,000円。素材はポリストーンと真鍮製（宝冠部分）で、重量は2.9kg。発売に先立ち、5月15日（木）よりイスム公式ウェブショップと直営店「イスム表参道店」などで先行予約が開始される。
Retailing at ¥143,000 (tax included), the figure will be available for pre-order beginning May 15 via Isumu’s online store and flagship Omotesando location.
