Hikawa Shrine’s “100-Year Forest Project” Underway—Preserving Sacred Forests Through Community Crowdfunding
関東屈指の古社、武蔵一宮氷川神社（さいたま市）で、参道の環境再生と教育活動を両立させた「鎮守の杜100年プロジェクト」が進行している。プロジェクトは、一般社団法人グリーンフォーが主催し、2025年3月21日から6月20日までクラウドファンディング形式で支援を募っている。
Musashi Ichinomiya Hikawa Shrine in Saitama, one of the oldest and most revered shrines in the Kanto region, has launched the “100-Year Forest Project” to restore and preserve its iconic 2-kilometer-long approach. The initiative, led by Green4, is seeking support via crowdfunding from March 21 to June 20, 2025.
全長2kmにおよぶ氷川神社の参道は、近年、樹木の枯死や土壌の劣化など、景観や生態系への影響が懸念されてきた。とくに土壌の踏圧による通気性・透水性の低下が、樹木の衰退を加速させている。プロジェクトでは、土中環境の専門家・高田宏臣氏の監修のもと、苗木の密植や炭・落ち葉・くん炭を用いた土壌改良によって、自然の循環を回復し、次世代に残る「生きた森」を形成することを目指す。
In recent years, the shrine’s approach has faced environmental issues including tree dieback and soil degradation due to foot traffic. Under the supervision of soil environment expert Hiroomi Takada, the project will implement dense planting of saplings and soil restoration using biochar, leaves, and straw to promote permeability, aeration, and natural biodiversity.
また、本取り組みは単なる緑化事業にとどまらず、地域住民や学生が環境問題やアントレプレナーシップを学ぶ教育フィールドとしても位置づけられている。埼玉大学との連携のもと、小学生の参加やイベントプロデュースなども行われ、環境と人をつなぐ「みんなの森」が形づくられていく。
Beyond ecological restoration, the project serves as a learning platform for students and locals, offering opportunities to engage with environmental issues and community entrepreneurship. With support from Saitama University, events and workshops will involve participants from diverse backgrounds, fostering a community-driven “forest for all.”
権宮司の東角井真臣氏は、「参道は地元の誇り。生態系豊かな森として、未来に受け継ぎたい」と語る。支援者には、苗木の植樹特典や環境配慮型石鹸、芳名板への記載などが贈られる。
Shinto priest Masami Higashitsunoi expressed his hope, stating, “The approach is a symbol of our community. We aim to pass on a rich, vibrant forest to future generations.” Donors will receive perks including tree planting opportunities, eco-friendly soap, and name recognition on a commemorative plaque.
クラウドファンディングは、武蔵野銀行グループのIBUSHIGINプラットフォームにて受付中。小さな苗が、100年後の大木となる風景を思い描きながら、多くの協力を募っている。
Crowdfunding is hosted on the IBUSHIGIN platform by the Musashino Bank Group. The project invites all to contribute to a forest that will grow tall over the next century.
