Year of the Snake Grand Festival: Kanasui Shrine Transforms into a Floral Paradise with Peonies and Wisteria
宮城県岩沼市の金蛇水神社では、2025年4月25日から5月25日まで「花まつり・巳歳大祭」が開催する。本年は60年に一度の御縁年にあたり、境内一帯が彩り豊かな花々で満たされる。
From April 25 to May 25, 2025, Kanahebisui Shrine in Iwanuma, Miyagi Prefecture is hosting its annual “Hana Matsuri” and Year of the Snake Grand Festival. This year marks a special 60-year commemorative cycle, and the shrine grounds are filled with vibrant seasonal blooms.
神社では約100種1,000株の牡丹が咲く「牡丹苑」や、樹齢300年を超える「九龍の藤」が見頃を迎えるほか、今年新たに整備された「芍薬苑」も本開苑。また、夜間には境内をライトアップし「宵詣（よいもうで）」も実施される。
Visitors can enjoy over 1,000 peonies across 100 varieties in the “Botanen” (Peony Garden), admire the 300-year-old “Nine-Dragon Wisteria,” and experience the newly inaugurated “Shakuyaku-en” (Peony Garden). Evening “Yoi Mōde” events also illuminate the grounds with lights.
週末には神楽舞台での奉納芸能、さらに禊場の再開場により銭洗いや禊体験も可能となるなど、多彩な催しが行われている。
Weekends feature dedication performances on the shrine’s kagura stage. The reopening of the “Misogi-ba” (purification site) also allows visitors to participate in ritual cleansing and coin washing.
この大祭は、神社が平成30年から進めてきた「令和理想郷創生事業」の集大成に位置づけられており、外苑では地域や企業と連携した様々な企画も展開中。
The festival marks the culmination of the Reiwa Ideal Village Project, initiated in 2018. New cultural and regional collaborations are unfolding across the shrine’s outer precincts with a range of creative programming.
会場へのアクセスは岩沼駅からの臨時バスや市民バスが運行されるほか、駐車場も完備。混雑が予想されるため、公共交通機関の利用が呼びかけられている。
Visitors can reach the site via temporary shuttle buses from Iwanuma Station, city buses, or by car—650 free parking spaces are available. Due to anticipated congestion, use of public transportation is encouraged.
