Commemorating the Once-in-33-Years Opening: Special Goshoin Stamp for Heisenji Hakusan Shrine Now Available
福井県勝山市にある白山信仰の聖地・平泉寺白山神社が、2025年5月23日から25日の3日間、33年に一度の御開帳を迎える。これに合わせて、えちぜん鉄道勝山駅構内の「えち鉄カフェ」では、神社の歴史と自然美をデザインに落とし込んだ「特別御乗印」の限定販売が始まる。
Heisenji Hakusan Shrine, a revered center of Hakusan faith located in Katsuyama, Fukui Prefecture, will hold its once-in-33-years ritual unveiling (go-kaichō) from May 23 to 25, 2025. To mark this special occasion, a limited-edition goshoin (train stamp) designed with the shrine’s historical and natural motifs is now on sale at the Echizen Railway’s Katsuyama Station café.
平泉寺は養老元年（717）、泰澄大師によって開かれ、越前側の白山信仰の拠点として発展。戦国時代には僧兵8,000人を擁する宗教都市として栄えたが、天正2年の一向一揆により焼失。その後再興され、現在は伊弉冊尊を祀る神社として信仰を集めている。境内の拝殿前に広がる苔庭は「福井の苔宮」とも称される。
Founded in 717 by the monk Taichō, Heisenji flourished as the Echizen branch of the Hakusan belief system. During the Warring States period, the temple complex housed over 8,000 warrior-monks but was burned down in 1574 during the Ikkō Ikki uprising. It was later rebuilt and now enshrines Izanami-no-Mikoto. The moss garden in front of the main hall is renowned as “Fukui’s Moss Temple.”
今回販売される特別御乗印は、拝殿と杉木立をモチーフにした意匠。スタンプには「二の鳥居」をあしらい、鳥居をくぐるえちぜん鉄道の列車を表現した。5月から7月までの期間・数量限定で販売され、売上の一部は神社周辺の環境整備に充てられる予定だ。
The newly designed goshoin features a motif of the shrine’s worship hall flanked by towering cedar trees. The stamp image includes the iconic “Second Torii Gate” with a train passing underneath, symbolizing the connection between faith and travel. The item is available in limited quantities from May to July, and a portion of the sales will be donated to support the shrine’s surrounding environment.
御開帳では本社をはじめ五つの社の扉が開かれ、神像が拝観できる貴重な機会となる。信仰と観光が交差する場として、鉄道と寺社が連携した試みが注目される。
During the go-kaichō, visitors will be able to view five sacred statues within the shrine precincts—a rare opportunity to witness these spiritual treasures. This collaboration between local rail and religious heritage underscores the unique intersection of tourism and tradition.
