Kyoto’s Jotoku-ji Temple Launches Crowdfunding to Restore Tokiwajizo Statue Linked to Yoshitsune
京都市北区の知足山 常徳寺が、平安末期の仏像「常盤地蔵」の修復費用を募るクラウドファンディングを開始した。
Jotoku-ji Temple in Kita Ward, Kyoto, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to finance the restoration of Tokiwajizo, a statue dating back to the late Heian period.
期間は4月25日から5月25日まで。実施はインターネットの資金調達プラットフォーム「CAMPFIRE」を通じて行われている。
The campaign runs from April 25 to May 25 and is being conducted via the Japanese crowdfunding platform CAMPFIRE.
常盤地蔵は、源義経の母・常盤御前が懐妊中に安産を祈願したとされる地蔵菩薩立像。義経誕生をめぐる伝承に連なる存在として、歴史的・信仰的な価値が高いとされる。
The statue is believed to have been venerated by Tokiwa Gozen, the mother of Minamoto no Yoshitsune, during her pregnancy. Closely tied to one of Japan’s most famous historical narratives, it holds deep religious and cultural significance.
像には千年にわたる人々の祈りが積み重ねられてきたが、経年劣化により修復の必要性が生じたという。
According to the temple, the statue has embodied the prayers of generations for nearly a thousand years, but age-related deterioration has made restoration necessary.
修復は本年6月から開始予定で、今回の資金調達はその準備段階として実施されている。
Restoration work is scheduled to begin in June, with the current campaign serving as a preparatory funding effort.
寺では「信仰の象徴としてだけでなく、日本史に残る母子の記憶として、この像の存在を未来へつなぎたい」として、広く支援を呼びかけている。
Temple representatives have stated their hope that the statue will be preserved not only as a religious icon but also as a living testament to the enduring memory of maternal devotion in Japanese history.
