Sarai’s June Issue Explores the National Treasures on View — A Cultural Guide to Major Exhibitions in Kyoto, Nara, and Osaka
2025年、大阪・関西万博の開催にあわせて、京都・奈良・大阪の3都市でかつてない規模の「国宝」展覧会が同時開催されている。
In 2025, as the Osaka-Kansai Expo unfolds, three major exhibitions of National Treasures are being held simultaneously in Kyoto, Nara, and Osaka—an unprecedented convergence of Japan’s cultural heritage.
これに呼応し、小学館の教養誌『サライ』6月号（5月9日発売）は、各展覧会の見どころを案内する特集を組んだ。
In response, Sarai magazine (June issue, released May 9 by Shogakukan) offers a comprehensive feature guiding readers through the highlights of each exhibition.
京都国立博物館の「日本、美のるつぼ」、奈良国立博物館の「超 国宝―祈りのかがやき」、大阪市立美術館の「日本国宝展」。3館に集うのは、仏像、絵画、工芸、書跡など、のべ約260点におよぶ国宝・重要文化財の名品群である。
The featured exhibitions include “Japan, the Crucible of Beauty” at Kyoto National Museum, “Super National Treasures — Radiance of Prayer” at Nara National Museum, and “Japan National Treasures” at Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts. Together, they bring together approximately 260 National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties—from Buddhist statuary and paintings to decorative arts and calligraphy.
誌面では、展示作品の見どころはもちろん、「かわいい」「こわい」「おどる国宝」といった現代的な視点からの解説や、狩野永徳『檜図屏風』や運慶作『大日如来坐像』など代表作の再現付録も収録されている。
The issue offers not only curatorial insights into key works, but also contemporary thematic interpretations such as “adorable,” “terrifying,” or “dancing” treasures. Supplements include reproductions of iconic pieces such as Eitoku Kano’s Cypress Trees and Unkei’s Dainichi Nyorai.
展覧会を前に予習として、あるいは観覧後の振り返りとしても読める、いわば国宝展の“文化ガイド”としての一冊である。
Serving both as a preview and a reflective companion, this issue functions as a cultural guide to the National Treasures exhibitions of 2025.
