Rebuilding After Devastation: Goshogawara’s Shinmeigu Shrine Launches Crowdfunding to Restore Its Worship Hall
青森県五所川原市に鎮座する神明宮は、令和6年3月に発生した火災により拝殿を全焼し、現在その再建に向けてクラウドファンディングを実施している。
Shinmeigu Shrine in Goshogawara, Aomori Prefecture, suffered a devastating fire in March 2024 that completely destroyed its worship hall. The shrine is now seeking public support through a crowdfunding campaign to fund its reconstruction.
創建は寛文4年（1664）。天照大神を祀る神明造の社殿は、地域の人々にとって初詣や七五三、結婚式など人生の節目に寄り添う場として親しまれてきた。
Established in 1664, the shrine enshrines Amaterasu-ōmikami, the sun goddess of the Shinto pantheon. For generations, it has been a sacred site for New Year visits, Shichi-Go-San festivals, weddings, and other important life events.
焼失した拝殿は、平成9年に竣工したばかりの木造社殿。設計には日本建築工藝設計事務所、施工には地元の名工・今榮藏氏が携わり、ふるさとのヒバを用いた神明造の建築美が評価されていた。
The destroyed worship hall, built in 1997, had been praised for its dignified beauty. It was designed by the Japan Architecture and Craft Design Office and constructed using local hiba wood by master carpenter Eizō Kon of the Ima Construction Company.
火災後、氏子らは再建のため「神明宮再建を支援する会」を立ち上げ、寄付やボランティア活動を通じて建材の洗浄・再利用を進めてきた。2025年度には本格的な工事が予定されており、今回のクラウドファンディングはその初年度費用の一部にあたる目標金額500万円の調達を目的としている。
Following the disaster, parishioners established a support committee and began preparing for reconstruction by salvaging and cleaning reusable materials. The crowdfunding campaign now aims to raise ¥5 million for the first phase of reconstruction, scheduled for fiscal year 2025.
柱の芯は燃え残っていた──設計者が語ったその言葉が、再建を誓う人々の覚悟を支えている。「木の命を蘇らせる」。焼けた神社を見つめながら、祈りと記憶を継ぐ挑戦が始まっている。
“The core of the pillar survived the fire.” These words from the shrine’s original architect continue to inspire the community’s resolve. The campaign is more than a restoration project—it is a pledge to revive a spiritual legacy and preserve sacred memory.
