Over 10,000 Pilgrims Join “Ishidan Mōde” at Dewasanzan Shrine—A Spiritual Journey of Rebirth Gains Momentum

出羽三山神社（山形県鶴岡市）と一般社団法人DEGAM鶴岡ツーリズムビューローは、2021年6月に始まった特別な参拝体験「石段詣（いしだんもうで）」の累計参加者が、2025年5月17日に1万人を超えたことを発表した。
Dewasanzan Shrine in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, along with the DEGAM Tsuruoka Tourism Bureau, announced that total participation in their special pilgrimage experience “Ishidan Mōde,” launched in June 2021, has surpassed 10,000 visitors as of May 17, 2025.
「石段詣」は、樹齢350年を超える杉並木に囲まれた羽黒山の参道を、お祓いの意味を持つ白いお注連（おしめ）を身につけて歩く巡礼で、全長2,446段の石段を踏みしめながら心身を清める体験となっている。
“Ishidan Mōde” is a spiritual pilgrimage that guides visitors along 2,446 stone steps on Mt. Haguro, flanked by 350-year-old cedar trees. Participants wear a white “oshime” sash symbolizing purification as they walk, purifying body and mind through the journey.
1万人目の参拝者となったのは、大阪府の岡本さんと静岡県の島嵜さん。記念式では、出羽三山神社の阿部良一宮司より特別御朱印と授与品が手渡され、羽黒山伏や山形県観光キャラクター「きてけろくん」も祝福に駆けつけた。
The 10,000th participants were Ms. Okamoto from Osaka and Ms. Shimazaki from Shizuoka. At the commemorative ceremony, Chief Priest Ryoichi Abe of Dewasanzan Shrine presented them with a special goshuin seal and commemorative items, joined by local yamabushi (mountain monks) and mascot “Kitekero-kun.”
阿部宮司は「羽黒山の石段は、もともと注連を身に着けて登拝するものでした。石段詣はその伝統に立ち返る取り組み。来年は午年の御縁年、ぜひまた参拝を」とコメントした。
Chief Priest Abe remarked, “Climbing Mt. Haguro with the oshime sash follows traditional custom. Ishidan Mōde honors that legacy. Next year, 2026, is a sacred ‘Year of the Horse’—please visit us again.”
今後は、羽黒山の文化財である五重塔の大改修（2024年）や、12年に一度の午年御縁年（2026年）もあり、さらなる参拝者増が見込まれる。DEGAMでは、「石段詣」を通じて、地域の食文化や観光資源との連携も進めていく方針だ。
Looking ahead, the recent restoration of the historic Five-Story Pagoda in 2024 and the sacred “Year of the Horse” in 2026 are expected to boost visitor numbers. DEGAM plans to continue linking “Ishidan Mōde” with local food culture and tourism resources.
「石段詣」では、体験者の動向を可視化するため、静岡県立大学と連携したQRコード受付システムを導入。特定の参拝時間や場所の傾向をデータ化し、地域振興への活用を図っている。
To visualize visitor behavior, a QR-code check-in system developed in partnership with Shizuoka Prefectural University has been introduced. The data helps analyze trends in visitation and supports local revitalization efforts.
2446段の石段の参道では国宝羽黒山五重塔も参拝できる
