Taisho University Establishes Satellite Campus at Nara’s Yakushiji Temple for Collaborative Cultural Heritage Research

大正大学（東京都豊島区、学長：神達知純）は、薬師寺（奈良県奈良市、管主：加藤朝胤）と連携協定を締結し、薬師寺境内にサテライトキャンパスを開設すると発表した。締結日は2025年5月29日。
Taisho University (Toshima-ku, Tokyo; President: Chijun Kandatsu) has announced a partnership agreement with Yakushiji Temple (Nara City, Nara Prefecture; Chief Abbot: Choin Kato) to establish a satellite campus within the temple grounds. The signing ceremony is scheduled for May 29, 2025.
このサテライトキャンパスでは、薬師寺が所有する歴史的文化財を活用した教育プログラムや共同研究を推進する。特に、2026年4月新設予定の情報科学部（設置認可申請中）と連携し、おもに文化財のデジタルアーカイブ化とその応用に関する専門的な研究活動を展開する。
The satellite campus will promote educational programs and collaborative research utilizing Yakushiji Temple’s historical cultural assets. In particular, it will closely collaborate with Taisho University’s new Faculty of Information Science (scheduled to open in April 2026, pending approval) to conduct specialized research in history, Buddhist studies, and digital archiving of cultural heritage.
2025年3月には、学生9名が薬師寺で行われた修二会（しゅにえ）に参加。護摩祈祷や法要準備など、現地での実践的な経験を通じて伝統行事への理解を深めた。
In March 2025, nine students participated in Yakushiji’s traditional Shuni-e ceremony, gaining firsthand experience in rituals such as goma (fire ritual) prayers and ceremonial preparations, deepening their understanding of traditional practices.
また、令和7（2025）年度には薬師寺執事長で大正大学客員教授の大谷徹奘氏による特別講座「心が創る自分～『唯識』の教えと対談から学ぶ心の重要性～」を実施する予定である。この講座は学生に加え、地域住民にも開放される。
Additionally, in fiscal year 2025, special lectures titled “The Self Created by the Mind: Learning the Importance of Mindfulness from the Teachings of Yogacara and Dialogue,” led by Tetsujo Otani, Executive Director of Yakushiji and Visiting Professor at Taisho University, will be held. These lectures will be open to both students and local residents.
大正大学は、薬師寺とのこの新たな連携を通じ、仏教精神に基づいた社会貢献と教育の実践をさらに進めることを目指している。
Through this new partnership with Yakushiji Temple, Taisho University aims to further advance its commitment to community engagement and education rooted in Buddhist principles.
