公益財団法人平山郁夫シルクロード美術館（山梨県北杜市）にて、2025年3月22日から9月8日まで、特別企画展「平山郁夫 シルクロード変幻」が開催中だ。
The Hirayama Ikuo Silk Road Museum (Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture) is hosting the special exhibition “Ikuo Hirayama: Ever-changing Silk Road” from March 22 to September 8, 2025.
本展では、日本画家・平山郁夫が生涯をかけて描き続けたシルクロードの風景や遺跡、隊商を描いた代表作とともに、初公開となる未完の遺作群が展示。これら未完の作品は、平山が晩年に取り組んだもので、ローマから奈良に至る7つの都市を描いている。
The exhibition features prominent works depicting Silk Road landscapes, historical sites, and caravans painted throughout the life of renowned Japanese artist Ikuo Hirayama. Significantly, it also presents previously unseen unfinished works created in his final years, portraying seven cities stretching from Rome to Nara.
また、仏教伝来を象徴するガンダーラ美術や旅のスケッチ、西域・中央アジアの美術品、平山の晩年を代表する『大シルクロードシリーズ』の作品などもあわせて公開。これらを通じて、平山郁夫が終生抱き続けたシルクロードへの憧憬と、民族や宗教を超えた世界平和への願いがうかがえる。
Additionally, the exhibition displays Gandharan artworks representing the transmission of Buddhism, travel sketches, art from Central and Western Asia, and pieces from Hirayama’s late-period “Great Silk Road Series.” These works reveal Hirayama’s enduring fascination with the Silk Road and his aspiration for world peace beyond cultural and religious boundaries.
