Hidden Buddha Statue Unveiled After 20 Years at Unedera Temple in Awara, Fukui
福井県あわら市坪江地区の「補陀洛山 畝畦寺（ふだらくさん うねでら）」にて、2025年6月7日（土）と8日（日）の2日間、市指定文化財である秘仏「銅造千手観音立像」が20年ぶりに御開帳される。
The hidden “Bronze Standing Thousand-Armed Kannon Statue,” designated as a cultural asset by Awara City, will be publicly displayed for the first time in 20 years at Unedera Temple, Awara City, Fukui Prefecture, on June 7 and 8, 2025.
畝畦寺は、奈良時代に泰澄大師によって開かれ、かつては朝廷からも山号や寺号を賜るなど栄華を極めた名刹である。戦国時代には越前の朝倉義景から120石の寺領を寄進され、「宇根千坊」と呼ばれるほど繁栄した。
Founded by the monk Taicho in the Nara period, Unedera Temple once prospered greatly, receiving official temple status from the imperial court. During the Sengoku period, it flourished with support from Asakura Yoshikage, who donated 120 koku of land.
明治以降は廃寺となったが、地元の人々により観音祭などが続けられ、信仰と伝統が守り継がれている。
Although the temple was abolished in the Meiji period, local residents have continued to preserve its religious traditions and festivals.
当日はあわら市牛ノ谷の臨時駐車場から送迎バスが運行されるため、直接の自家用車での来訪は控えるよう呼び掛けている。
A shuttle bus service will operate from the temporary parking lot at Ushinotani in Awara City, and visitors are asked to refrain from driving directly to the temple.
