The 21st Annual Hozuki Market at Roppongi Asahi Shrine: Celebrating Summer Traditions and Cultural Exchange
東京都港区の繁華街・六本木に鎮座する朝日神社で、夏恒例の「ほおずき市」が7月11日（金）・12日（土）の2日間にわたり開催される。朝日神社は江戸時代中期の創建以来、地域の鎮守として親しまれ、今なお都心の喧騒の中に静かな祈りの場を提供している。
The annual “Hozuki Market” will be held on July 11 and 12 at Asahi Shrine, located in the bustling Roppongi area of Minato-ku, Tokyo. Founded in the mid-Edo period, Asahi Shrine has long served as a guardian deity shrine for the local community, offering a peaceful space amidst the city’s busy atmosphere.
今年21回目を迎えるほおずき市では、境内いっぱいに鮮やかな朱色のほおずきが並ぶ。ほおずきは古くから邪気を払う縁起物とされ、境内の情緒ある風景を引き立てる。今回は特別に宮崎県日之影町の特産品も販売され、地域間交流を深める催しとなっている。
Celebrating its 21st year, the Hozuki Market will fill the shrine grounds with vibrant orange lantern plants (“hoozuki”). Traditionally believed to ward off evil spirits, these plants enhance the shrine’s atmospheric setting. Additionally, specialty products from Hinokage, Miyazaki Prefecture, will be sold, fostering cultural exchange between regions.
また、境内では1831年創業の老舗蔵元、姫泉酒造合資会社による本格焼酎のふるまいも予定されている。同酒造は伝統的な日本の酒造り技術を受け継ぎ、令和6年にはユネスコ無形文化遺産に登録された技術を用いている。訪れた人々は日本の伝統酒文化に触れ、夏のひと時を楽しむことができる。
Visitors can also enjoy authentic shochu served by Himeizumi Shuzo, an esteemed brewery established in 1831. Recognized for preserving traditional Japanese sake-brewing techniques, the brewery’s methods were registered as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2024. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience this rich aspect of Japan’s cultural heritage while enjoying a summer day at the shrine.
六本木という都会の中心で受け継がれるこの伝統行事を通じて、朝日神社は地域の枠を超えた人々の交流の場としての役割も果たしている。
