Mikoshi and Lion Dance from Abe Oji Shrine to Parade through Abeno Harukas on June 22, Praying for Protection and Good Fortune

阿倍王子神社（大阪市阿倍野区）の「阿倍野神輿」と、氏子地域である阪南地区に伝わる「阪南獅子舞」が、6月22日にあべのハルカスを巡幸する。午前9時に近鉄「大阪阿部野橋」駅のコンコースを出発し、ビルの外周や展望台「ハルカス300」を経て練り歩く。この催しは2018年に始まり、2020年から2022年のコロナ禍による中止を挟んで、今回で5回目となる。大阪・関西万博を見据え、地域行事のひとつとして継続開催される。
The “Abeno Mikoshi” from Abe Oji Shrine in Abeno Ward, Osaka, along with the traditional “Hannan Shishimai” lion dance from the shrine’s parish region, will parade through Abeno Harukas on June 22. The procession will start at 9 a.m. from the concourse of Kintetsu Osaka Abenobashi Station and continue around the building, including the Harukas 300 observation deck. The event began in 2018 and, excluding cancellations from 2020 to 2022 due to the pandemic, will mark its fifth occurrence this year. With the Osaka-Kansai Expo on the horizon, the procession continues as part of ongoing local cultural activities.
阿倍野神輿は約130年前、船場の商人たちが八幡神社に奉納したもの。1907年の神社合祀令により、八幡神社は阿倍王子神社に統合され、神輿も阿倍野へと移された。第二次世界大戦中には、周辺が空襲の被害を受ける中で、神社と神輿は焼失を免れた。戦後、氏子たちが巡幸を再開し、地域に再生の象徴として受け継がれた経緯がある。その後、平成期に担ぎ手不足で中断していたが、2017年に復活を望む声が寄せられ、地元企業であるあべのハルカスの協力のもと、翌年に再び巡行が行われた。
The Abeno Mikoshi was built about 130 years ago by merchants from the Semba district and originally dedicated to a Hachiman Shrine. In 1907, when the shrine was merged into Abe Oji Shrine under government consolidation, the mikoshi was also transferred to Abeno. During World War II, the shrine and mikoshi escaped damage despite heavy air raids in the surrounding area. After the war, parishioners revived the procession, which came to symbolize the community’s recovery. In the Heisei era, the event was suspended due to a shortage of participants. However, in 2017, renewed interest among local residents and support from Abeno Harukas led to the revival of the parade in 2018.
阪南獅子舞は昭和期から夏祭りの渡御行列に加わってきた。後継者の減少を受け、現在はからくり山車の形で保存されており、2019年以降は再び地域行事で披露されている。当日は、神輿と獅子舞が沿道を進み、厄除けと運気上昇を願って地域を練り歩く。
The Hannan Shishimai has been part of Abeno’s summer festivals since the Showa period. While a lack of successors once halted the tradition, it is now maintained as a mechanical float and has appeared again at local festivals since 2019. On the day of the event, the mikoshi and lion dance will parade along the streets, invoking prayers for purification and prosperity throughout the neighborhood.
