Reviving the Ishizaki Hōtō Festival: A Tradition Reignited for the Future after the Noto Earthquake
能登半島地震から1年半。石川県七尾市石崎町では、被災によって途絶えていた伝統行事「石崎奉燈祭」の復活に向け、クラウドファンディングが始まった。地域の精神的支柱である祭りの再開に、多くの市民が願いを託している。
The traditional Ishizaki Hōtō Festival in Ishikawa Prefecture’s Nanao City is set to return, a year and a half after the Noto Peninsula earthquake. A crowdfunding campaign has been launched to revive this symbolic summer festival, a source of spiritual strength for the local community.
かつて石崎奉燈の灯りは、北前船の船乗りにとって夜の海を照らす“迎え火”であり、帰港の目印でもあった。奉燈に込められた「帰る場所がある」という祈りは、今、震災からの再生を目指す町の想いと重なる。
The large lanterns carried during the festival once served as “welcoming lights” for Kitamaebune sailors returning at night. That symbolic sense of “having a place to return to” now echoes in the town’s collective effort to rebuild after the disaster.
石崎町は、江戸期に幕府直轄の「天領」とされた歴史を持つ港町。町の氏神・石崎八幡神社を中心に、奉燈祭は100年以上にわたって受け継がれてきた。だが2024年元日の地震では、木造家屋の倒壊や道路の陥没など甚大な被害を受け、祭りの開催は見送られた。
Ishizaki, once a “tenryō” or shogunate-administered port town, has long celebrated the festival centered around its guardian shrine, Ishizaki Hachiman. However, the devastating quake on January 1, 2024, forced the community to halt the event due to widespread damage.
復興はなお道半ばにある。そうした中で決まった2025年の祭り再開には、「子どもたちに帰るふるさとを残したい」「次代に誇りを渡したい」という地域住民の強い願いが込められている。
The 2025 revival of the festival carries hopes of leaving a hometown for the next generation and passing on local pride. Reconstruction is far from complete, but residents are determined to bring back the festival.
クラウドファンディングでは、道路の整備、夜間照明、装束や広報などの費用が支援対象となっており、支援者には感謝の品として能登の特産品や映像資料が届けられる。期間は8月31日まで。
The campaign seeks support for infrastructure, lighting, costumes, and promotional materials. Backers will receive local gifts and documentation of the effort. The campaign runs until August 31.
主催者は「過去の伝統をなぞるのではなく、未来を守るために祭りを再開させたい」との思いを寄せている。祭りの灯を絶やさぬよう、クラウドファンディングを通じて広く支援を呼びかけている。
The organizers have expressed their desire to “revive the festival not merely to trace past traditions, but to protect the future.” Through crowdfunding, they are calling for broad support to ensure the festival’s flame is never extinguished.
