TANGO! Buddhist Art from the Sea and Mountains of Kyoto on View at Ryukoku Museum
京都市下京区の龍谷ミュージアムで、特集展示「TANGO!海の京都・山の京都の仏教美術」が7月12日から開催される。会期は8月17日まで。
A special exhibition titled “TANGO! Buddhist Art of Kyoto by the Sea and Kyoto in the Mountains” will be held at the Ryukoku Museum in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto, starting July 12 and running through August 17.
現在改修工事中の京都府立丹後郷土資料館から一時的に預託されている仏教美術品のうち、丹後西部や丹波北部の社寺に伝わる約40件が紹介される。
On view will be around 40 Buddhist artworks temporarily entrusted to the museum from the Kyoto Prefectural Tango Regional Museum, which is currently undergoing renovations. These works originate from temples and shrines in the western Tango and northern Tamba regions.
展示されるのは、成相寺(西国三十三所第28番札所)、丹後国一宮・籠神社、威光寺、遍照寺、縁城寺などに伝わる仏像や仏画、狛犬、経典、歴史資料など。
The exhibition includes Buddhist statues, paintings, guardian lion-dog sculptures (komainu), sutras, and historical materials passed down through temples and shrines such as Nariaiji Temple (the 28th temple of the Saigoku pilgrimage), Kono Shrine (the former ichinomiya of Tango Province), Ikōji, Henshōji, and Engijōji.
海と山に抱かれた丹後・丹波地域には古くから多くの信仰が根付き、豊かな造形文化が受け継がれてきた。
The Tango and Tamba regions, surrounded by the sea and mountains, have long fostered deep-rooted religious traditions and a rich legacy of Buddhist visual culture.
展示期間中には、記念講演会やワークショップ、ギャラリートークなどの関連企画も予定されている。
During the exhibition period, the museum will also host related programs including commemorative lectures, hands-on workshops, and gallery talks.
