Crowd Funding for Restoration of Chuson-ji’s Honbo Omote-mon Gate Edo Period Yakuimon Gate is sloping due to earthquake damage.
岩手県平泉町の世界遺産・中尊寺で、江戸時代初期に建てられた本坊表門の保存修理に向けたクラウドファンディングが始まっている。中尊寺によると、修復費用は総額約4,100万円を見込んでおり、その一部を募るため、インターネット上で寄付を呼びかけている。募集期間は5月30日まで。
A crowdfunding campaign has begun at Chuson-ji, a World Heritage Site in Hiraizumi-cho, Iwate Prefecture, to preserve and repair the Honbo Omote-mon Gate, built in the early Edo period. According to Chuson-ji, the total cost of the restoration is estimated to be approximately 41 million yen, and donations are being solicited on the Internet to help defray part of the cost. The application period is until May 30.
本坊表門は、江戸初期に仙台藩伊達家の家臣・伊達兵部宗勝邸から移築されたと伝わる薬医門。軸部には桃山様式の特徴が見られ、同寺境内に現存する貴重な近世建造物の一つとされている。参拝者を迎える正門として、毎年5月と11月に行われる「藤原まつり」でも稚児行列の出発点となるなど、宗教行事と深く関わってきた。
The Honbo Omote-mon gate is a Yakuimon gate that was reportedly moved from the residence of Munekatsu Date Hyobu, a vassal of the Date family of the Sendai domain in the early Edo period. It is said to be one of the most valuable early modern structures still existing on the temple grounds. As the main gate welcoming worshippers, it has been deeply involved in religious events, such as the starting point for children’s processions during the Fujiwara Festival held annually in May and November.
しかし2008年の岩手・宮城内陸地震、2011年の東日本大震災によって被災。現在は仮設の筋交いで支えられているが、柱の傾斜や構造の歪みが進んでおり、早急な解体修理が必要とされている。
However, it was damaged by the Iwate-Miyagi Nairiku Earthquake in 2008 and the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. Currently, it is supported by temporary braces, but the pillars are tilted and the structure is distorted, necessitating immediate dismantling and repair.
修理では、現存する木材や金具を可能な限り活用し、歴史的価値を損なわないよう工法を選定するという。解体後の調査で追加補修が発生する可能性も見込まれており、将来的な災害にも耐えうる構造の再生が目指される。
In the repairs, the existing lumber and metal fittings will be utilized as much as possible, and the construction method will be selected so as not to damage the historical value of the building. It is anticipated that additional repairs may be required as a result of the post-demolition survey, and the aim is to rebuild a structure that can withstand future disasters.
中尊寺では令和6年に金色堂建立900年、令和8年には中尊寺全体の落慶900年を控えており、今回の修復は記念事業の一環でもある。中尊寺側は「表門は境内と外界をつなぐ象徴的存在。歴史的景観を次世代へ引き継ぐため、多くの支援をお願いしたい」としている。
Chuson-ji will celebrate the 900th anniversary of the construction of Konjikidō in 2024 and the 900th anniversary of the completion of Chuson-ji in 2026, and this restoration is part of the commemorative project.
