■Engyo-ji Temple to Host Special Cultural Property Viewing During Shinryoku Festival
西国三十三所第27番札所としても知られる書寫山圓教寺（兵庫県姫路市）で、2025年5月3日（土・祝）から5日（月・祝）にかけて「新緑まつり」が開催される。新緑の映える山上の古刹を舞台に、通常非公開の国指定重要文化財を特別に拝観できる貴重な機会となる。
Engyo-ji Temple, a renowned Tendai Buddhist temple located on Mount Shosha in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, will hold its annual Shinryoku Matsuri (Fresh Greenery Festival) from May 3 to May 5, 2025. During the three-day event, several normally inaccessible cultural treasures will be open to the public.
期間中は、国指定重要文化財の大講堂内部で釈迦三尊像および四天王立像が、常行堂内部では阿弥陀如来坐像が特別公開される。さらに、県指定文化財である本多家廟屋も一般公開の対象となる。拝観時間は各日とも午前10時から午後4時まで。
The centerpiece of the event is the special viewing of the temple’s National Important Cultural Properties. Visitors will be able to enter the Great Lecture Hall (Daikōdō) to view the Shakyamuni Triad and Four Heavenly Kings statues, as well as the Amida Nyorai seated statue inside the Jōgyōdō Hall. Additionally, the Hondake Mausoleum, a Prefectural Cultural Property, will also be on display. Viewing hours run daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
圓教寺は平安時代に性空上人によって開かれ、「西の比叡山」と称される天台宗の名刹。数々の映画や大河ドラマのロケ地にもなった境内は、摩尼殿、三之堂、開山堂など歴史的建造物が点在し、文化財の宝庫として知られている。
Founded in the 10th century by the monk Shoku Shonin, Engyo-ji has long been revered as the “Mount Hiei of the West.” The temple is also known as a filming location for historical dramas and films, with its grand halls and scenic mountain setting drawing visitors year-round.
今回の特別公開は、文化財保護を前提としたものであり、天候などの状況によっては中止される可能性もある。入山には志納金（中学生以上500円、小学生300円）が必要となる。
Visitors should be aware that viewings may be canceled in case of inclement weather to protect the artifacts. An entrance donation (shino-kin) of ¥500 for adults and ¥300 for children is requested.
また、同期間中には書写山ロープウェイを利用したアクセスが推奨されており、混雑が予想されるため、公共交通機関の利用が呼びかけられている。
Access is available via the Shosha-zan Ropeway from Himeji Station, followed by a 20-minute walk to the main temple complex. The use of public transportation is strongly recommended due to limited parking and anticipated congestion during the event.
