Ceremonial Data Book 2025 Edition (¥2,000), published by the Ceremonial Culture Research Institute under the General Incorporated Foundation for the Promotion of Ceremonial Culture, is a data-driven reference that traces how Japanese life rituals—such as weddings, funerals, memorial services, and coming-of-age ceremonies—have evolved in response to societal change.

2016年の創刊以来、毎年改訂を重ねてきた本書は、今回で8冊目。省庁やシンクタンク、民間企業などが発表した膨大なデータから、冠婚葬祭産業に関わるテーマを独自の視点で選び出し、1テーマにつき1〜2ページでコンパクトに整理。視覚的にわかりやすいグラフや図表とともに、要点を簡潔に把握できる構成となっている。

Since its first edition in 2016, this annual publication has reached its eighth volume, offering updated insights each year. Drawing on a wide range of government statistics, think tank reports, and corporate surveys, the editors carefully curate themes relevant to the ceremonial industry. Each of the 134 topics is compactly presented across one or two pages, with clear graphs and concise explanations to allow for quick comprehension.

The book is structured into three main chapters: “General Statistics,” “Public Opinion Surveys,” and “Global Perspectives.” Topics range from basic demographic data such as marriage and death rates to changes in mourning practices, shifts in religious sentiment, preferences for funeral formats, market trends in wedding and funeral services, and international comparisons of end-of-life customs.

近年、終活や家族観の変化、少子高齢化、無宗教化、あるいはコロナ禍後の生活意識の変容によって、冠婚葬祭をめぐる価値観や実践には大きな転換が見られる。本書は、そうした移ろいを数字の裏側から静かに照らす。
