Ikuta Shrine
Six limited edition spring Goshuin designs will be offered from April 1, 2025 at Ikuta Shrine (Chuo-ku, Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture), which is located in the heart of Kobe. The shrine, known as a god of marriage, plans to offer special Goshuin for each of the four seasons each year, and this spring again features a lineup of gorgeous designs based on the theme of cherry blossoms and marriage.
The main attractions are the “Shunsho-moude,” a paper cutout of nighttime cherry blossoms on the temple grounds, and the “Sakura-knot,” featuring a design of thread tied around a cherry tree. Both are finished with precise kirie processing, and the detailed expression using the half-cut technique is eye-catching.
The “Shikki-shuin (spring)” uses an etching process to capture a spring scene of dancing butterflies and cherry blossoms. The “Uzuki” and ‘Sakura’ seals, which are only available in April, and the “Harumoude” seal, which features the zodiac signs of the year and a double-flowered cherry tree with the company crest dancing in the air, all evoke a sense of the breath of spring.
Wakahirume-no-Mikoto, the deity of the shrine, is the goddess of weaving and is known for her divine power to bring people together. His divinity is reflected in the design of the Goshuin, which resonate with worshippers who pray for spring encounters and new beginnings.
Each Goshuin is available until April 30 (some are available from March and extended until May), and the initial fee ranges from 500 yen to 1,000 yen. The shrine also offers the seals by mail, bringing spring blessings to those who cannot make it to Kobe.
