■Taikichi Irie’s “National Treasures of Yamato” on View in Nara
奈良市写真美術館では、奈良出身の写真家・入江泰吉（1905～1992）の作品展「大和路の国宝」が2025年4月12日から6月15日まで開催される。奈良の風景や仏像を撮り続けた入江の代表作から、国宝を中心とした作品約50点が出品される。
The Nara City Museum of Photography is hosting a special exhibition titled “National Treasures of Yamatoji – Photographed by Taikichi Irie” from April 12 to June 15, 2025. The show presents around 50 of Irie’s iconic works capturing the spiritual and artistic beauty of Buddhist statues and landscapes in Nara.
入江は戦後間もない1945年、米軍による接収の噂が流れる中、東大寺法華堂の仏像を目にし、その美しさを記録する使命感に突き動かされたという。以降、奈良の寺社仏閣や伝統行事を約半世紀にわたり撮影。仏像を単なる記録写真としてではなく、歴史と精神性を写し取る芸術として提示した。
Born in Nara in 1905, Taikichi Irie devoted his postwar life to photographing the cultural and religious heritage of the region. After witnessing the statues of Hokke-do Hall at Todai-ji Temple in 1945, he began documenting Buddhist art with a sense of mission. His photographs are known not just for their documentary value, but for conveying the profound spirituality and history embodied in the figures.
本展では、「興福寺阿修羅像」「唐招提寺千手観音像」「東大寺南大門金剛力士像」など、入江がとらえた名宝の数々を、モノクロとカラー作品を交えて紹介。静謐な画面に浮かび上がる仏像の表情からは、時代を超えた祈りの姿が立ち上がる。
The exhibition includes celebrated images such as the Asura of Kofuku-ji, the Thousand-Armed Kannon of Toshodai-ji, and the Nio Guardians of Todai-ji’s Great South Gate. Presented in both color and black-and-white, Irie’s compositions offer a timeless perspective on faith and form.
会場は、入江の全作品を所蔵する入江泰吉記念奈良市写真美術館。開館は9時30分から17時（入館は16時30分まで）。月曜休館（祝日の場合は翌平日休）。観覧料は一般500円、高校・大学生200円、小・中学生100円。
The venue, the Nara City Museum of Photography, houses Irie’s complete collection. Admission is ¥500 for adults, ¥200 for high school and university students, and ¥100 for children. Closed on Mondays (except national holidays), the museum is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (last entry at 4:30 p.m.).
